Bonjour Montreal!

Exciting Weekend Getaway

Montreal greets you with French savoir-faire and English no-nonsense business acumen. Jaques Cartier founded a settlement here in 1515, and today Montreal is Canada's largest city. From the top of Mont Royal look out over the towers of McGill University and the old walled city of Vieux Montreal. Take a ride around Place d'Armes, the magnificent Notre Dame Cathedral and walled Sulpician Seminary. And visit Montreal's ingenious escape from winter, Underground City (photo left), a huge complex with six hotels and hundreds of shops and restaurants.

Look no further...Montreal has all the great things you're looking for in an exciting weekend getaway. Winter, Spring, Summer, or Fall

this city has warm friendly people greeting you from the time you step off the plane to the time you get in your quick taxi ride back to

the airport. We just visited and stayed at the Westin Hotel, a solid business style hotel with all the perfect amenities: restaurant, gym, on site cafe and indoor pool.

The rooms are all well appointed with comfortable Heavenly beds for a great night sleep. Our host, Senior Sales Manager Genevieve Paradis (see photo), welcomed us with a tour of the hotel and ended with a welcome cocktail in the Gazette Bar and restaurant on site. Since we were attending the NY Ranger game versus Montreal we already had our Saturday evening scheduled. With Genevieve's help we were directed to the underground system of tunnels that connect the entire city.

We were able to walk to various city centers all connected via a maze of tunnels (see photo above) and metro stations. Restaurants and shopping for practically anything were available all done in comfortable surroundings while walking throughout the city and not having to deal with the cold temps.

What we noticed was how clean the system was. The grounds was without trash, no writing on the walls, no smell in the air. It is obvious how the people respect their city.

Our Friday night dinner was excellent at "Barocco" restaurant (photo left) in Old Town. Welcoming staff and great food works every time.
Our server "Antoinette" was great and even had an after dinner drink with us to end out excellent dinner.

We had such a good time that the table next to us bought us a Galliano and expresso shot topping off an excellent evening at dinner. Thank you Mat and Audrey!

Following dinner we headed to a 11pm set of MD6 jazz sextet at Upstairs jazz club.
No cover! Amazing musicians all under the age of 25. After the set Patrice, the sax player, spoke with us for a while. He was excellent and only 22, what a nice guy! We wish him and the band all the best. Great night!.

Keep in Mind all this is done with $8-10 taxi rides to each location. All very reasonable and during the winter a must. But
also keep in mind during the spring and summer you could easily walk to these locations.

Saturday morning all about working out and feeling good for the new day. Best deal, we rented workout equipment from the Westin for $5.25CDN or $3.80US

No need to pack sneeks or gym clothes what a deal!

Brunch back into Old Town. Great food and comfortable surroundings!..
All about good service ..no worries here.
Just do not be in any hurry just enjoy take your time and let the people of Montreal welcome you into their city. And they are very welcoming.

In the afternoon we continued to explore the maze of tunnels and underground city offerings ...Great buildings and wonderful architecture is every where you look in this city.
We met a couple sitting in a restaurant who majored in architecture design attending McGill University. This 'restaurant' was a 'cooperative'/cafe with people enjoying a bite to eat while others were working, having rented the cooperative space. They were on computers and phones in their rented spaces inside this amazingly beautiful converted bank with vaulted ceilings and mosaics. These historic structures, buildings and churches, are every where you look.

Saturday evening: dinner before the game at St Hubert ...real close to the Bell Centre, home of the Montreal Canadians. What a comfortable arena.

Our Rangers are ready for the Hockey Night in Canada main event. Glad to have finally made it to the hockey equivalent to Yankee stadium..

The Canadians are the 2nd winning-est sports franchise in North America. Tradition is a wonderful thing and Montreal is all about tradition.
