Victoria Falls are Zambia's most celebrated spectacle. Measuring some 1.7 kilometres in width and with a drop of around 105 metres, an immense volume of water passes over the cataract at the height of the inundation with a flow rate of about 550,000 cubic metres per minute. This massive rush of water sends a huge plume of spray into the sky, visible for miles and providing a stunning spectacle, as we walk on paths that border the ravine. On this tour we are taken on a guided tour of Victoria Falls from the Livingstone (Zambian) side. A sunset cruise on the Upper Zambezi River provides a opportunities for game-viewing, followed by the chance to enjoy an incredible sunset. Apart from these activities there is much in the area to interest the visitor including whitewater rafting, horse trails, game-viewing in Zambezi National Park, flights over the falls, canoeing and evening cruises on the Zambezi. Most optional activities can be easily booked once you arrive and our local agent in Zambia will be happy to offer assistance. For those who prefer more leisurely activities, the craft market offers a wide range of local handicrafts at reasonable prices.
On this tour extension you are be based at either our standard property, The Waterfront, or our superior property, Thorntree River Lodge. The Waterfront is beautifully situated on the banks of the Zambezi River, just a couple of kilometres upstream from spectacular Victoria Falls. There is an a la carte restaurant, pool and bar, where you can relax and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. The very secluded Thorntree River Lodge is also situated on the banks of the Zambezi River, within the renowned Mosi-Oa-Tunya National Park and 15 kilometres upstream from the falls. With only six twin rooms and two honeymoon suites, you can be assured of a unique and personal African experience. Constructed entirely from natural materials including indigenous woods and thatching, the lodge blends naturally into its lush riverine surroundings and offers superb river views from its main deck and private verandas. Thorntree has a centrally situated lounge and dining area, a swimming pool with a water level bar, a thatched lapa in which to relax during the heat of the day and a main deck from which you can enjoy the famous sunsets over the river and perhaps watch the regular procession of elephants, as they follow an age-old migration route that runs directly in front of the lodge.
